Augustana to host filmmaker for screening of 'Admissions'
"What if you had to face every decision you ever made and the people they affected most?" That is the question that highlights John Viscount's critically acclaimed short film, "Admissions," starring Academy Award nominee James Cromwell. Augustana College will host Viscount as he presents his film and leads a short Q & A session on Tuesday, March 15, at 10:30 a.m. in the G?vle Room on the fourth floor of The Gerber Center (3435 9 ? Ave., Rock Island).
The film explores how to find enduring peace even in the darkest corners of our world. Set in the "Admissions Room" for the afterlife, this modern parable features an Israeli couple and a Palestinian man who push audiences to start a conversation that heals.
"Admissions" premiered at the 2011 World Summit of the Global Alliance for Ministries & Departments of Peace in Cape Town, South Africa. It has been featured in film festivals across the globe and translated into many different languages. The film, its director and star have won many top awards, including "Best Short Film" at the New York International Film Festival, the International Movie Awards and the Spirit Quest Film Festival, among others.
Viscount's goal is to cultivate more peace in the world by creating what can both elevate and entertain. Throughout his life, he has experienced the transformational powers of positive messaging. Before he was a filmmaker, he wrote for AskMoses.com, a 24-hour spiritual counseling website, and Fabrengen, a publication that tells uplifting stories and advice read worldwide. He also wrote for Room To Read, an organization that promotes literacy in impoverished countries. Viscount also founded the organic clothing line Mind Over Fabric, which gives messages of wisdom from classic spiritual teachings. Recently, he published Mind What Matters. A Pep Talk For Humanity, a companion book to "Admissions" with meaningful stories on how to achieve long-lasting happiness.
