Lutfisk and meatball dinner

The American Scandinavian Association at Augustana will host its annual lutfisk and meatball supper.

The social gathering with refreshments will start with punch at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will begin at 6. The meal includes lutfisk, Swedish meatballs, peas, parsley buttered potatoes, pickled beets, pickled herring, coleslaw, cheese, assorted breads, lefse, rice pudding and cookies.

The evening's program, titled "The Tomte and Nisse in Scandinavian Holiday Tradition," will be presented by by Dr. Ulf Jonas Bj?rk, assistant professor of Scandinavian at Augustana College.

Dr. Bj?rk joined the Augustana faculty in fall 2024 after retiring from the Department of Journalism and Public Relations at the University of Indiana Indianapolis. His presentation will focus on the history and tradition of jultomten (julenisse in Norwegian and Danish). We may even be visited by a real jultomte!

Parking is available in the faculty lot west of Gerber or on the street.

Reservations are due Nov. 1. Mail the names of guests who will attend, a phone number to contact, and a check for the total amount to Loryann Eis, 2037 15th St., Moline, Ill., 61265, or call 309-762-8303. Checks should be made payable to ASA.
